Season Thirteen of Edgecombe Performance Series Begins October 3
Music and movement are the themes of performances in the upcoming thirteenth season of Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»â€™s .
Each year, the College presents a series of performances for the community in a variety of artistic disciplines. All performance series events take place in on the Tarboro campus, located at 2009 West Wilson Street.
The 2017-2018 Edgecombe Performance Series lineup is:
Tuesday, October 3, 1 p.m.
The first week of October will mark Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»â€™s 50th anniversary serving the Edgecombe community. Tuesday, October 3, has been designated Culture Day at Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³». Join the College for an early afternoon concert featuring acoustic music and stories from seminal North Carolina musician and historian Lightnin’ Wells and Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»â€™s own Eric Greene.
Bring lunch and gather with family, friends, and Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» faculty and staff in Mobley Atrium prior to the concert, beginning at 12 p.m. The concert begins at 1 p.m. General admission is free to the public, and no tickets are required.
Sunday, October 29, 3 p.m.
With more than sixty musicians, the Pitt Community College Symphony Orchestra is a collaborative effort between the college and the community to offer an educational orchestra for both students and members of the community. The philosophy of the orchestra is to bring together musicians from a variety of backgrounds and ability levels. The program is currently in its seventh season, under the direction of Michael Stephenson. On Sunday, October 29, the group will perform its annual fall concert in Tarboro, which will include a Halloween costume contest for children twelve and under. The concert begins at 3 p.m. General admission is free to the public, and no tickets are required.
Wednesday, December 6, 7:30 p.m.
The beloved North Carolina Symphony Holiday Pops Concert is an annual tradition in Tarboro. Led by Associate Conductor David Glover, the concert will feature familiar seasonal and classical favorites, the popular holiday sing-along, and a visit from jolly old St. Nick and Mrs. Claus. This year’s concert takes place on Wednesday, December 6, beginning at 7:30 p.m. General admission tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for students (pre-K through college).
Friday, January 26, 7:30 p.m.
Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» is pleased to welcome the Barter Players back to Tarboro for a second consecutive season. The theatre troupe, based at the historic Barter Theatre in Abingdon, Virginia, will perform Aesop’s Fables for area kindergarteners and first graders in the morning, followed by an evening performance of Jack London’s Call Of The Wild for the general public, beginning at 7:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Furman Mathewson Trust of Edgecombe County Memorial Library, the performance is free, but reserved seating tickets are required.

Le Cirque Esprit is a dynamic production of live music and acrobatics, featuring Boston-based progressive chamber ensemble cordis, creating the musical backdrop for Brooklyn’s veteran cirque company, ABCirque, providing the perfect canopy of spectacle and thrill. Musical purists will revel in the virtuosity, as expression consumes both ground and air. Savor for yourself the art of unfolding in Le Cirque Esprit. The event takes place Friday, March 2, at 7:30 p.m. Reserved seating tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for students (pre-K through college).

The New York Theatre Ballet will make its sixth consecutive appearance in the Edgecombe Performance Series. Under the direction of founder and Artistic Director Diana Byer, the company will perform for the public on Thursday evening at 7:30 p.m., followed by an educational performance for area second and third graders on Friday morning. The ballet is sponsored by the Furman Mathewson Trust of Edgecombe County Memorial Library. Admission is free, but reserved seating tickets are required.
