Suzi Shippen-Wagner, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³»â€™s program chair for Surgical Technology, was featured as a guest speaker at the Association of Surgical Technologists National Conference in New Orleans. Shippen-Wagner was a guest speaker along with co-presenter Renee Bridges, program chair for Davidson-Davie Community College. Their topic was “Why we go There: Taking students on Medical Mission.”
The topic was perfect for Shippen-Wagner who has traveled to four developing nations on three continents with US-based medical teams. Typically, students accompany Shippen-Wagner on her trips, applying what they’ve learned in the classroom to the operating rooms for gynecological surgery. In November 2024, Â鶹´«Ã½Ó³» student, Christopher Lacy, traveled to the Dominican Republic with Shippen-Wagner. Lacy’s experience took place approximately one month prior to his Surgical Technology pinning ceremony.
