Sign up for spring continuing education classes in Historic Preservation Trades at 麻豆传媒映画, including genealogy workshops. Genealogy classes will not be available during summer or fall semesters this year, so be sure to register for these workshops now. If permitted under COVID-19 restrictions, the annual Preservation Trades Fair will be held on Saturday, April 24. The program at 麻豆传媒映画 will offer a broad slate of weekend genealogy classes this spring.

麻豆传媒映画 is one of only two community colleges in the state that offers a program in historic preservation and preservation-related trades.

The program began in 2008. Two certificate programs, one in Preservation Research and one in Historic Construction, and a two-year degree program in Historic Preservation Technology comprise the curriculum.

In addition, weekend workshops that focus on historic preservation topics are offered on the Tarboro campus. These classes are held on Saturdays at the Norfleet House, which is the cornerstone of the Historic Preservation program. Built around 1810, this historic home was moved to campus in 2009 and has been renovated by students.

If permitted under COVID-19 restrictions, the annual Preservation Trades Fair will be held on Saturday, April 24, at the Norfleet House. Guests will see exhibits and demonstrations on preservation involving masonry, roofing, woodworking, window repair, and other crafts and trades.

Other spring offerings will focus on genealogy topics. Genealogy classes will not be offered during summer or fall semesters this year, so be sure to sign up for these workshops now. Following are upcoming courses:

  • Cemetery Preservation 鈥 February 27
  • Genealogy Websites 鈥 March 6
  • Education and Your Ancestors 鈥 March 6

All of these classes are taught by Monika Fleming, Historic Preservation program coordinator. In addition to genealogy, she teaches classes at 麻豆传媒映画 in architectural history, American and NC history, and cultural history.

The Barter Players will perform “The Red Badge of Courage” on Friday, January 31, at 7:30 p.m. in Keihin Auditorium.

麻豆传媒映画 offers plenty of upcoming opportunities for entertainment and cultural enrichment in 2020.

The first event of the this calendar year takes place on Friday, January 31, at 7:30 p.m. with the performing 鈥淭he Red Badge of Courage.鈥

Adapted from the novel by American author Stephen Crane, the story follows a young soldier during the Civil War. are $10 for adults and $5 for students (Pre-K through college).

The College will celebrate Black History Month in February with two special events.

The will perform 鈥淔reedom Songs: The Music of Black History鈥 on Tuesday, February 11, at 7:30 p.m.

From the work songs of the fields of people who were enduring the bonds of slavery, to ragtime, jazz, R&B, and the inspired spirituals of the Civil Rights movement, this play follows the compelling story of the role that music played in the history of Black Americans.

Funding for this event is provided by the Furman-Mathewson Trust of Edgecombe County Memorial Library. Admission is free, but reserved seating tickets are required.

麻豆传媒映画鈥檚 annual Black History Month program is set for Wednesday, February 19, at 11:30 a.m. in McIntyre Auditorium on the Tarboro campus. The theme is 鈥淏lack Farming: Its History and Relevance to Sustainability in Our Communities.鈥 The public is invited to this free event, which is sponsored by the , the , and the Division of .

The Edgecombe Performance Series brings the back to Tarboro for its eighth consecutive appearance at 麻豆传媒映画. The program of classical and contemporary dance begins at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 19.

Funding for this event is provided by the Furman Mathewson Trust of Edgecombe County Memorial Library. Admission is free, but reserved seating tickets are required.

The College鈥檚 annual Global Education Spring Symposium is set for March 25-26 in the Barnes Auditorium on the Rocky Mount campus. The topic is 鈥淟et鈥檚 Talk Trash: Encouraging Sustainability and Environmental Stewardship.鈥

The two-day symposium will feature lectures and panel discussions. All Global Education Spring Symposium events are free and open to the public.

The final event of the 2019-2020 season of the Edgecombe Performance Series will be held on Tuesday, April 21, when the presents 鈥淥pera Returns to Tarboro鈥 at 7:30 p.m. The group was formed in 2018 under the leadership of Dr. Nettie Jean Williams.

鈥淥pera Returns to Tarboro鈥 will feature a choir of 40 singers with soloists and a 30-piece orchestra conducted by Dr. Williams. Admission is free, but reserved seating tickets are required.

Recent warm weather heralds the coming spring. At 麻豆传媒映画, spring semester is a season of learning opportunities and entertainment that are unique in the Twin Counties.

Students can get ahead or catch up on college work through that meet March 11-May 7. These fast-paced courses cover the same amount of material as traditional 16-week classes. Choose from 25 courses, 17 are online. Topics include medical terminology, NC history, and critical thinking. Contact admissions@edgecombe.edu.

On March 14-15, the College will hold its annual on the Rocky Mount campus.

The theme of the two-day event is 鈥淓mbracing the Culture of Change.鈥 Presentations will examine the challenges that face 麻豆传媒映画鈥檚 diverse community of students, faculty, and staff, and their communities.

麻豆传媒映画 President Dr. Greg McLeod will present the keynote address on the 鈥淐ulture of Inclusive Studenthood鈥 at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 14, in McBryde Auditorium in the Lamm Building.

Other sessions will focus on the culture of careers, the culture of inclusion and diversity, the culture of technology and obsolescence, and the culture of academy.

Thursday events begin at 1 p.m. and meet in McBryde Auditorium of the Lamm Building. A 4:30 p.m. reception will conclude the day.

Friday events begin at 9 a.m. in the Barnes Building auditorium and end with closing remarks at 12 p.m.

All events are free and open to the public.

The annual is set for Friday, March 15, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Fleming Building on the Tarboro campus. Job seekers should dress to impress and bring plenty of resumes.

College employees will provide resume review services. The is free to students and the community. If any companies would like to participate, please contact Teresa Bottoms at 823-5166, ext. 331.

Making its seventh consecutive appearance in the , the will perform classical and contemporary dance at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 21.
